Getting By

This is a post on how the wedding registry has spoiled us terribly, and how I am now paying the price.
Prior to getting married, we paid a visit to Crate & Barrel to register for gifts. The salesman told us to register for anything and everything. When we told him we were big coffee drinkers, he recommended us the Krups KM7000: their top of the line grind-and-brew coffee maker, a $149.99 value. Till that point, I had been completely happy with the old Mr. Coffee that my parents had bought 10 years ago, a $10.00 value (Target). But we decided to listen to the sales guy, because hey, we're getting married and he must know all about gift registries!
Well, after receiving the KM7000, we enjoyed better-than-starbucks-quality coffee each morning (no joke!). The coffeemaker was set on a timer the night before, and each morning at 7am the machine would grind our coffee beans and they would be brewing by the time we woke up. This machine was amazing, unfortunately the reliability of this thing was pretty shoddy as this $150 coffee maker lasted only 15 months before dying. A quick search of Amazon reviews showed that no one had a working machine more than 18 months after purchasing. While Krups has agreed to replace it under warranty, it will take 3 weeks to get a new machine. Till then, it is back to Mr. Coffee.
The Krups has truly done a disservice to us, as I think I can now be officially called a coffee-snob. I can totally tell a difference between the two machines. Had we not had a registry, we would have easily just gone with a cheapo coffee maker and no one would be the wiser. But now, I'm stuck with this unreliable coffee machine that makes the best coffee in the world. My hands are tied.
If the replacement machine breaks, I will tear it apart and fix it myself.
