My New-Old Bike
I bought a bike! But file this story under "weird":
On Monday I went to look at a Specialized bike that I found on Craigslist. The bike was more than I wanted to spend, and definitely more bike than I really needed, but it reminded me of an old bike that Janice used to have so I decided I would at least go to look at it.
I talked to the guy for about 20 minutes and then told him I needed time to think about it and that I would call him back later. I called Janice to ask her advice about it, and after a few minutes of talking, we realized... this was HER old bike!
Not just a bike that looked like, or reminded us of her bike, it was literally her bike that she had sold to this very same guy a year and a half ago! How did we realize this?
1. The guy said he had originally bought it from a girl who was on the Baylor cycling team.
2. Janice was able to tell me where there were paint scratches on the bike.
3. Janice told me that the guy she sold it to drove a black truck (check) and had brown hair (check).
4. The guy remembered that our house was off of 360, near Westlake HS.
It was the strangest thing. Janice originally sold it because she was going to get into mountain biking, but ended up staying with road bikes and bought a road bike in California. I ended up buying the bike back from this guy. The guy is into triathalons and upgraded a lot of the components on the bike, then ended up getting an even better bike. I pretty much paid the exact same price for the bike that Janice sold it for and got a bunch of upgrades with it.
