A twist in the story!
Yesterday afternoon I recieved a phone call from a number I didn't recognize. The person on the phone identified himself as an investigator with the Austin Police Department. A week ago, a stolen car was recovered and the investigator was looking at possible leads. The reason he called me was because a medical bill was found inside the stolen car with my name and address on it.
Turns out, this was the medical bill that was located in the dash pocket that was connected to my stolen stereo! I can only assume that the guy who stole my stereo and iPod, also stole this car, and then just randomly threw out this useless paper when he abandoned the vehicle.
Unfortunately, there was no sign of the stereo or the iPod in the recovered vehicle. The investigator said that chances are that those things have been pawned off already.
If anyone ever visits a pawn shop and finds a pink iPod nano (3rd generation) that is engraved with "To Carolyn, the one I love" and the date "July 19, 2008", there's a good chance that that's ours.
