I'm working from home today, not because I'm sick, but because everyone else is.

People in my department are getting sick, yet they've been coming into work as if nothing's wrong. Through the coughing, sneezing and groaning, I ask them what's wrong. The brief response sums it up:

"I'm sick."

Argh. Maybe I can't blame them, because the culture is set up to where missing a day of work puts you way behind for the rest of the week. But that really affects the rest of us. Yesterday Carolyn and I had evening plans to go visit some friends and their 9-week old newborn baby. I find out at the end of the day that I had been in close proximity with people that had been sick all day. In the end I just kept my distance from the kid, just in case.

My public service announcement: If you have flu-like symptoms, stay home!

Masks only protect the sick person from spreading disease through sneezing. Not healthy people in contact with sick people: http://tinyurl.com/dl66aj
