Food and Friends
Many times when we get together with good friends, it is usually spent over a good meal. This weekend was no different. Our good friends, Derrick and Angela, were in Texas and came to Austin to visit us. Though they were only here for a day, it was such a blessed time with one another. We ended up going to The Salt Lick on Saturday evening, and then Hula Hut on Sunday afternoon. The food was simply the icing on the cake, which means I ate A LOT of icing! We talked life and just spent the time relaxing with one another. It reminded me of the college years where we would just hang out at someone's apartment for a few hours just shooting the breeze. These times are few and far between, so it's good to treasure them when them occur. I wish I had pictures to show, but unfortunately I didn't bring my camera to anything this weekend.
That Friday night though, Carolyn and I went to try Uchi for the first time ever. Carolyn can describe it better than me, but it's not your typical sushi restaurant. I guess I would describe it as Sushi meets "Top Chef" creativity. Each dish was creative both in ingredients and flavors, but also in presentation. Again, not having a camera meant taking low-light iPhone pictures. I took pictures of the "hot rock" which was a stone heated to 600 deg F, and served out with beef strips that you then could sear on the rock for a few seconds. One of the desserts ended up being a mascarpone sphere, served with green soy ice cream, and other mascarpone flakes. The combination was amazing! These are my awesome Mr. Blurrycam pictures. Can you even tell what they are?
