Saw this on Engadget today. It's a cellphone made from corn. Well, the plastic used to construct the phone casing is made from corn. I'm starting to see a lot of corn-based plastics these days. All the cafeterias here on campus now sport corn-based plastic forks and knives, which is a welcome sign from one of the biggest universities in the nation. I'm sure Greenpeace is slightly happier today as this is a small step in reducing e-waste around the world.

Seeing an eco-friendly thing like this reminds me of those Greenpeace people who are on campus all the time. I've been stopped MANY times by them as they tell me about companies like Kimberly-Clark (maker of Kleenex) who are ravaging the world's forests in order to make soft plush paper for your pooper. Usually the Greenpeace-ers are hipster-esque in trying to get you to stop for 5 minutes so that you can listen to their schpeel. The last time they did it I was coming back from lunch with a some labmates, the Greenpeace girl on the sidewalk said, "Hey come here and give me a hi-five!". I did and then she tried to get me to donate to Greenpeace. Her main argument though was, (*in a low, secretive voice*) "Why don't you just sign up to donate so that you can impress some of those ladies that you're walking with."

Uh. no. I flashed the wedding band, "I have no desire to impress them. I'm married. Sorry."

Now I don't stop for them anymore.
