Hilarious Sermons
Yesterday I had the opportunity to give a
sermon in ECHO. I spoke on the topic of worship from John 4, the
Samaritan woman at the well. Studying and preparing for it was
really good for me as this passage is so rich and deep. But
organizing all of this information into a 30-40 minute sermon that
is relevant and engaging was also very challenging.
After the service, Matt and I briefly talked about humor in
sermons. In preparing for the talk, I was typing out what I thought
were the most hilarious anecdotes or observations. But at times the
only person who laughed was Matt! Matt said he would have laughed
louder but he didn't want to draw attention to himself. Sometimes
you think that what you're saying is golden, but then it falls
flat. Maybe I should have worked on the delivery. Personally I
thought I had some hilarious material.
