Carolyn and I don't agree on all things but that's okay. We celebrate our differences and get better insight by knowing the other's perspective. One of the things we argue about is which bible translation to study from. Personally, if I could smoothly understand King James english I'd go with that. But for me I primarily read from the English Standard Version. Carolyn prefers the New American Standard Bible. We have debates on which one is better. Both of us like our translations because they are easy to read and are literal translations that preserve the context of Scripture. I looked up some info on the interwebs to see how they compared. Here is one comparison review that I found from Shane Scott (part 1, part 2, part 3).

Bias disclaimer: Shane Scott finds that the ESV slightly edges out the NASB:)

According to the Senior Pastor of First Evangelical Free Church, Rob Harrell , it's all about which one helps you understand the Bible better. He uses NIV. So do I.
