Getting in on Twitter-action
Since signing up for Twitter last week,
I've come to see what all the talk is about regarding the Twitter
service. Twitter is everywhere in the media today. I've found a
lot of people on it, but there are still many that have not seen
the usefulness of the application. In trying to convince people to
sign up, I've heard the following rationale: "Why would I want to
know about what someone is doing at this very instance?" or Ricky
Tam's way of putting it, Why would I want to tell someone I'm
taking a crap right now?
For that, I would just say that it is more amusing and addicting
than you think it is. And if you give it a chance now, you won't
be late to the game as you might have been with other services in
the past. Consider previous services and the excuses people had for
not jumping on. Eventually people sign up, but way too late.
Facebook: "Why would I want to friend people online and write on
a virtual wall?"
Cell phone: "I don't want to be reachable at all times. It's
so inconvenient."
AOL/ICQ Chat: "Can't I just pick up a phone if I want to talk
to someone?"
Email: "Typed messages are so impersonal. I'd rather just
handwrite all my notes or call them on my house phone"
Motorized carriage: "My horse gets me around just fine,
thankyouverymuch."
Can you think of any others?
