Paul's Secret

Today on CNN I read an article about the world recession hitting Taiwan where most of my family is from. Apparently, the recession was bad enough that the government gave out stimulus checks in order to encourage people to spend money and shop.

I quickly wrote my cousin Willie an email to see how things were going. Some of you met Willie this summer when he came to Austin for my wedding. Willie told me that for him he was okay and had secured a job last month. Though it does not pay much, he told me that he and others have been learning what the Apostle Paul says in Philippians 4:12.

"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."

In the verse following Paul answers: I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
