Sippin' Gas
Yesterday I drove to school because I had
to run some errands in the evening after I was done in the lab. As
I was running errands, I saw that my gas gauge was running low, and
figured that I might as well fill up the car while I was out.
I keep a record of all my gas fill-ups in a little book in the car.
That way I can track mileage changes over time. Anyways, I did a
double take as I looked in the book. My last fill-up was October
11! ONE MONTH AGO! This was even after I drove to school three
times last week because of the bus strike.
I thought about it some more, and this was actually the first time
that I was able to fill up on "cheap gas" in a long time. Last
month when I filled up, I was still paying close to $3.00 for gas.
Yesterday, I paid $2.29 (my car takes premium gas, if you're
wondering why that number is higher than what you might be paying).
At this rate, I'm paying less than $7 a week for gas.
CNN Money has reported that as a result of this summer's peak gas
prices, a lot of people have made changes that are not being undone
even though gas prices are dropping like crazy. As demand falls,
prices have to fall too, and that low price isn't making consumers
change their gas-sipping habits especially since we're in a
recession now. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with that.
Who needs a hybrid car? Public transportation for the win.
