Big Camera Guy
It's always an odd feeling when you
don't "fit" in. You may fit in with some crowds, but not at
others. Such was the feeling this weekend. Carolyn and I went to a
wedding in San Antonio for one of her old classmates. It was a very
traditional catholic weddling, and we were two of the only four
asian guests at the wedding. Everyone else was caucasian. But that
wasn't what made me feel out of place.
During the reception, people were pulling out their cameras to take
pictures of the bride and groom, as well taking pictures with
friends. I thought that I would do the same. However, I was the
only person there with a giant SLR camera! Not only that, I brought
my external flash, so I was basically rocking out with the biggest
camera there, second only to the wedding photographer.
What an odd situation that was. At asian weddings, EVERYONE has an
SLR camera. In fact at those weddings, the wedding photographer has
to fight all the crazy asians to get the right angle and shot.
I'm gonna have to warn our photographer about that.
I didn't take many pictures because I recently bought a diffuser
cap for my flash and wasn't sure how to properly adjust the
settings for indoor photography. The ceiling was too high to bounce
light off of, and so my photos turned out a little harsh even with
the diffuser. Reading about it today, I found out that you have to
use SLOW sync mode so that you get a well lit background as well.
I'll have to experiment some more with it. Unfortunately, the next
wedding I'll be at will be my own... and I won't get to take any
photos myself there.
