This past Sunday, Trent Thompson brought a really powerful message about family and community within the church. It has made me ponder what the word "family" actually means to me. In the last couple of years, the importance of family has become increasingly prominent in my life. At one wedding I went to last year, I heard the expression "blood is thicker than water". It was used in the context of the importance of family during hardships. That has been the case for me in the past, and it has shown me that my family will never leave me when I need them. In this period of life, family is becoming extended for me, as I will soon become adopted into Carolyn's family. In the sermon on Sunday, family also means the body of believers that I am surrounded by at church. The over-arching comfort in family is that it is safe. Knowing that there are people whom I can confide in gives me hope and security.
