The Future is Now

When I was in elementary school, I remember a lesson that my
teacher was giving on the geology and the petroleum that was
drilled from it. One of the things she said was that the earth has
a finite amount of petroleum and that in the next 50 years we will
run out of fuel. I remember thinking that since 50 years was such a
long time in the future, I wouldn't have to worry about gas
shortages for a long time.
Well, it seems like the future is here, a whole 30 years ahead of
time. Who would have imagined gas would be pushing $4 ($5 in some
places) and we'd all be desperate for alternative fuel technology?
Everyday I read the news about families who are on the brink of
bankruptcy because gas prices and food prices go up and
unemployment is running rampant. People who drive cars with big gas
tanks are spending over $100 now to fill up their cars! The thing
is that people who time travel forward in time can't afford things
here in the future. Who would have thought the future would be
here, a whole 30 years ahead of time! Where are the flying cars?
Where are the hoverboards?
Well, since the future is here early, someone's gonna have to do
something to help us out. I read that a mere 7 years ago, when Bush
first took office, gas prices were at a miserly $20 per barrel.
Today they are at $120 per barrel. Now, I'm not saying that this
is the President's fault, but I am saying that something needs to
be done.
