Commuting to Campus

This past week I started looking at the
possibility of riding the bus to campus. I've never had to rely on
public transportation because God has graciously always provided me
and my family with a car, or with friends who had cars. Even though
the bus routes around campus are very quick and easy, I've always
just walked around campus.
As I look at my monthly budget these days, I've noticed a big
chunk of the pie going to gas money. I spend about forty to fifty
bucks to fill up the car every week, which adds up to almost $200 a month!
I found out that there is a bus stop just a few hundred feet away
from our soon-to-be house. It takes about 45 minutes to get to
24th/Guadalupe which is about two blocks away from where the new
BME building will be. Currently, since I park far away from campus,
it takes me about 45 minutes to get into the lab as well. Of
course, while public transportation is not as convenient as having
a car handy, it saves a lot of money. How much money you ask? Check
out this commuter calculator to see how much you can
save.
Pretty cool if you ask me. While the actual savings will vary,
it's pretty surprising the amount of money we dump into our cars
on a monthly basis.
