I think two people at this point have referred to my conference as a
"nerd fest". Can't say that I don't agree with them and such. But hey,
I'm probably a nerd for saying that I actually enjoyed some of the
presentations here. This morning we heard a keynote speech by a
scientist doing research on sports bras. This lady was talking about
how little research had gone into sports bra design, and how many women
suffered during activity from.. um... "excessive breast movement",
complete with video examples. I believe that she had the attention of
all the men in the auditorium. I think I must have laughed out loud a
few times during the presentation as she was very tongue-in-cheek about
the whole issue. She showed a newspaper clipping of an article that had
been published on the research going on in her lab. The title of the
article? "The Biomechanics of Tittillating research". It was
accompanied by a picture of a test subject in her lab wearing only a
sports bra. She said it ended up making front page of the newspaper.
Not exactly the kind of coverage that you would want for your research,
but I guess any coverage is good coverage.
She also talked about ACL injuries which I thought was kinda gruesome
because she had all these slow motion videos of athletes twisting and
bending their knees in very abnormal positions during sports games. How
are knees related to breasts, you might ask? The same fabric used to
make the sports bras were being used to make these knee stabilizers.
These were fabric transducers that could measure angle and stretch and
be used either in scientific testing or in real-time training regimens.
Pretty cool. Mechanical engineers would have been impressed.
At the end of the talk, the moderator said, "Thank you for keeping us
abreast of your most recent developments".
Alright, I'm late for the next set of presentations.

Is this because you've been staring at women's chests all day?
