A week after I posted that I don't go to Starbucks as often anymore, Starbucks announces a new initiative in order to bring customers back into the store. Due to decreasing profits over the last two quarters, Time reports the following:

One of the broadest changes is a loyalty-rewards program starting in mid-April for anyone who buys a Starbucks card and registers it online. Participants will get free refills on drip coffee, a free cup of coffee when they buy a bag of whole bean coffee, two free hours of Wi-Fi a day and free upgrades — including syrups, soy milk, and extra whip cream — on all lattes.

Do I even need to explain the awesomeness of those things? Free refills and free WiFi is huge. Does this mean that it's back to paying $4 for a latte? Maybe not, but it's nice to see competition benefitting the consumer. Now only if that would happen for Apple MacBook Pros.

Starbucks' campaign is mostly a reaction to (surprise) McDonald's and their popular gourmet coffees and breakfast options, which are eating (ha, punny) into Starbucks' profits. McD's has gone one step further and installed free Wi-Fi in 15,000 of their stores (http://www.geeksugar.com/707017). Of course, Starbucks has a much classier working environment, but it definitely makes me think twice about where I want to spend my money.
