Charging Complete
Today I finished my 2nd charging station. I put on the last coat
of polyurethane finish (I only did two coats) and let it dry for a
few hours. I'm pretty happy with the results. It sits on top of my
filing cabinet and charges my electronic essentials. The included
chargers will change as I change out different electronics, but so
far these are the things that I use on a daily basis. You can see
that the box holds a hornets' nest of wires. Without the box, all
of these cables would be simply strewn across the carpet, or piled
into a corner somewhere.
Since the surge protector doesn't handle big charging adapters
well, I bought those two yellow 6 inch extension cords from Fry's
today. They allow the big adapter bricks to be moved out of the way
so other chargers can fit on that surge protector.
Even though this is my second try at a box, I still learned a lot
about woodworking this time. My friend Nick tells me that boxes are
actually pretty difficult to make, since each side has to fit
perfectly with each other. The tiniest offset will create a gap in
the box. There are some gaps in the base since I didn't have a
table saw to cut the straight lines. Fortunately, this box won't
be holding any water.
