Books from the sky
As you may or may not know already, one of
my favorite books is "The Cross Centered Life" by C.J. Mahaney.
It's a book that has helped me escape legalism and condemnation,
and helped me to embrace grace and forgiveness through Christ. This
is especially hard when you fall short of God's standards because
our tendency is to try to smuggle our own character into the
Gospel. What does that mean? It means that I put my own performance
as the basis for why God should bless me, or withhold punishment
from me. However, it is only through the Cross that God should even
deal favorably with us because on our own we've got nothin'.
A few weeks ago, I was given an invitation to speak at an ACC
Friday night event in April. The topic will be on the centrality of
the Gospel in our every day lives. While this is an honor and
privilege, I feel very inadequate to speak on this topic in
particular. I can think of a dozen people off the top of my head
who would be much better than me at this. Anyways, one of the
things that I want to do is provide those at the fellowship event
with a copy of "The Cross Centered Life" if they are interested.
However, I can't afford a bundle of books myself, so I asked Sovereign Grace
Ministries if they would be able to provide me some books to
give away after my talk. I figured it wouldn't hurt to at least
ask.
Today I received an email from Sovereign Grace saying that they
would provide me with 40 copies of the book as a gift!
Unbelievable. I was in awe at the goodness of God here. I hope that
these books will be put to good use. Please consider coming to hear
me speak on April 11th. I could use all the support I can get.
