More Angry Bugs
Yesterday morning, my dad needed to move
the van that has been sitting unmoved in our driveway for about 2
years. The battery was dead though, so our neighbor loaned us his
battery charger. We popped the hood and were greeted by a very
shocking sight.
Right under the hood of the van was this giant wasp nest filled
with angry wasps! For the last couple months, I've always noticed
that there is at least one lone wasp flying around the driveway on
Saturday mornings. I was always confused why it just seemed to
hover around the van not going anywhere. Turns out, it was probably
just guarding the nest. Well, now there was more than just one. We
had about two dozen wasps flying around the van now, angry that
someone had disturbed their nest. We backed off and tried to figure
out what to do. The neighbor brought out some heavy duty bug spray
and totally drenched the nest in poison. That of course, made them
even more angry. My dad decided to grab the electric fly swatter
and start frying these wasps. Our neighbor was pretty handy with
his bug spray, as the can shot out a fairly long stream of poison.
With it, he was able to hit wasps that were flying three feet above
his head.
I watched from a safe distance as both my dad and my neighbor stood
there killing wasps. My neighbor commented on my dad's uncanny
ability to hit those things with the electric swatter with deadly
accuracy. To which my dad responded:
"I play ping-pong."
When all was said and done, the wasp nest was gone, and only a few
wasps remained alive, writhing in pain from the poison. We hooked
up the battery charger and later that night I was able to move the
van out from the driveway. Two bug encounters in a week? Let's
hope I don't have a third encounter.
