"O Who?"
Yesterday, I waited about 5 hours total to get tickets to the UT/OU game this year. Since I didn't have season tickets, I was forced to enter in the draw. Fortunately, I got a not-so-terrible wristband number, and ended up getting tickets towards the end of the draw. Had I planned better, I could have gotten away with only waiting one hour in line, but not knowing exactly how things worked, I waited close to 3 in the actual line.
Anyways, it's very exciting, seeing as how last year I didn't get a good wristband number and ended up getting no tickets at all. Waiting for the draw is actually kinda amusing. Here are a few of the observations throughout the day:
1. People are wheeling and dealing all over the place, and start trying to make deals with you once they realize you aren't drawing a full six tickets.
2. People who try to cheat by taping together a cut up wristband get caught.
3. Stadium security is at an all-time high for the Texas/OU draw.
4. WiFi reception sucks in some areas of the stadium.
5. People are more than willing to skip classes to stand in line (even if they have exams the very next day).
6. Even though there are 6 box office counters open, the ticket office is still only able to get about 20 people through the line every 30 minutes, meaning the average transaction takes about 5-10 minutes.
7. Annoy someone the day of the draw, and they're not going to accept your ID to draw for tickets. Instead, you'll just be told to "enjoy the State Fair".
8. People are more than willing to entrust their bank debit card and PIN number to a stranger just so they can provide them the money to buy Texas/OU tickets.
9. A Nintendo DS only helps to pass 2 out of the 3 hours you wait in line.
10. I should have gotten Season Tickets this year.
