Safe and Sound
Well, last night around 11pm (Taiwan time) we landed safely in Taiwan. In an effort to adjust my sleep schedule appropriately, the night before we left Austin I barely slept at all. I stayed up until about 5:30am and ended up getting around 2 hours of sleep. Since then, I slept sporadically on the plane, trying to stay up towards the end of the flight so that I could sleep once I got to my grandparents' house.
It ended up working to some extent. Last night I went to sleep around 1am, and slept soundly through the night. However, this morning I was woken by the light streaming through the window. I didn't set up my clock in the room so I had no idea what time it was. Having lost all sense of time, I got up thinking that I had overslept. Turns out that it was only 6:00am! I got up and stayed up, just conversing with my grandparents and appreciating the extra time I had to take things slowly this morning. What a nice change of pace it was to be able to casually get ready for the day, being able to read my Bible without rushing and even having time to blog.
I just came back in from walking around the area that we are living in right now. I didn't walk too far, but far enough to reach a major street and take in some of the sights and sounds of daily life here in Taoyuan. I walked over to this fruit market where people were buying up all these tasty fruits. I regretted not carrying any Taiwan money with me, because there were many fruits that I wanted to buy, and subsequently eat.
We're heading out to church service in about 30 minutes. Afterwards, eat and then head over to Taipei for the beginning of the biomechanics conference that I'll be attending until July 5th.
