Crazy Birds
There is this psycho bird on campus that
harasses me almost every morning. It's located on the stadium
corner of MLK and Trinity. Whenever someone walks by the
tree/lightpost/whereever that this bird is nested, it'll come out
from its nesting area and begin swooping at this person. I'm
guessing that the bird thinks that you're trying to disturb its
nesting place.
The first time I saw it, I was at the traffic light trying to cross
MLK into campus. I saw a girl pass by the area and the bird just
kept swooping down at her. Every time it tried to dive-bomb her,
she would duck and the bird would miss her head by mere inches. No
joke. The bird would dive bomb, turn around, swoop again, turn
around. It went on for a few seconds, before the girl was able to
finally grab her purse, which she dropped, and then run away to
safety.
For myself, I usually walk by and then feel this swoosh of air
behind my head. At first it confused me, but then I realized it was
the bird trying to scare me away. If I just keep walking, it
usually stops after a few dive-bombs. Never does it touch me and
try to poke my eyes out or something. Either way, it's annoying.
Yesterday, as I was walking by that place, I had my empty stainless
steel coffee mug. In my mind I was thinking, if that bird comes out
again, I'm going to bash it with my mug as it flies by my head.
Fortunately for the bird, it never showed up. Anyways, I'm not
exactly sure what causes the bird to act that way, but it's kinda
funny.
Oh and by the way, the bird is not an analogy or parable for
something else. There REALLY is a crazy bird at MLK and
Trinity.
