Running for Your Life
I participated in the 5k run this morning. The researcher-in-me wishes I had a GPS/heartrate monitor so I could have collected personal data during the run, but whatever. I got there around 8:45 and found quite a large crowd there ready to run. There were people with dogs, people with strollers, one guy had a horse costume wrapped around his waist which was odd. I wasn't sure what to expect of the race itself, only that I was hoping to just keep a 10 minute pace throughout the run. Wei and Sandy were also there to run. We talked about how slow we would probably be in the run, and i said, "Well there's no way I'm letting anyone with a stroller beat me!"
When we started running, we all pretty much set our own paces. Wei runs just a smidgen of a pace faster than me, and for the first 1/4 of the run I tried to keep up with him. Then I decided I would hang back and ended up running with Katie Drilling for a little while. As we were coming around the bend, someone came zooming past us; it was none other than Pastor Matt who was pushing a double stroller! Argh. He passed me and soon I couldn't see him anymore.
I ended up with a time of 33 minutes and change. Wei finished in the 32's and Sandy finished in the 37's. I had hoped to finish under 30 minutes, but I did a lot better than the first time I did a 5k.
