Some of you might totally laugh at this post, but whatever. Two Sundays ago I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. After big service, I walked upstairs to the ECHO room. There were a few minutes before the college service started so people were just mingling around talking. I happened to walk by Susan Pearson holding a flyer as she goes up to Katie Drilling and says, "We HAVE to get our small group and all the other small groups to run in this 5k on Feb 24!"

She sees me walk by and says, "Jimmy, you have to run in it too!" Oh no. I am by no means a runner. I like running, but really only when I'm playing a game that involves running. I tried to politely decline, but Susan kept pushing me to sign up. I'm not exactly sure what happened, maybe I briefly lost control of my motor skills, but I ended up signing up for it. And that's where the fun began:)

For over a week now, I've been trying to train myself to run for 5 kilometers (3.1 miles). I only trained indoors last week, and started feeling pretty good about it. Until yesterday.

Yesterday was the first day that I tried to run outdoors in our neighborhood. Now, I've learned that when you train indoors, you have the benefit of having level ground and no wind resistance. Both of these things killed me outdoors. For any of you who have been to my neighborhood before, you'll know that it's super hilly. In fact, the last street before my street is probably a nice steep 50% grade. No joke. Suffice it to say, I didn't reach 5 kilometers. I think the actual route on Saturday will be decently flat, but either way I have 4 more days to get ready for it.
