Wii Old School
So yesterday I got a Nintendo Wii in the
mail. I ordered it last week after seeing that Sears had got them
in stock. I set it up and my sister and I spent some time last
night playing it. Lemme tell you, it is good for hours and hours of
amusement.
We were also browsing all the different features of the console.
One of the things you can do is download old school NES and Super
NES games from Nintendo. Each game costs about $5-7 depending on
how old it is. So we decided to check out Super Mario Bros. That's
right, the first one. From 1985.
So we download it and set up the game for 2 players. Now if you
don't remember how it works, Super Mario Bros is played one player
at a time. The first player plays until he/she dies, and then it's
the second player's turn. So I start playing and gradually my
sister is getting really annoyed because I'm not dying, but
rather, I'm beating level after level. On top of that, she's
getting really bewildered because 22 years after this game was
released, I still remember where all the secrets are, where all the
warp zones and hidden items are. So it's bewilderment and
annoyance. Quite a hilarious combination. We were laughing for
quite a long time.
My sister also pointed out that this was exactly how things were
like when we were kids playing Nintendo. Some things never change.
