Rubik's Cube
When I was a kid, my dad had a Rubik's cube here at home. I never
knew how to solve it, and was never motivated enough to figure it
out. This past week, when I was at Alex's house, my interest was
piqued for the first time. He had a Rubik's cube sitting on his
coffee table. He and Teresa had gotten some at Sharper Image, where
they were 50% off last week. At first I didn't think that was a
big deal, but today I found out what a good deal that was.
Alex had showed me a few strategies to moving the colors around the
cube. Not enough to solve the puzzle, but enough to motivate me to
solve this stupid puzzle. So today I went out to try to find one. I
was so surprised to find out that they were SOLD OUT everywhere!
This is a toy that has been around as long as I have been alive! I
checked this game store in the mall, Sharper Image, Toys R' Us,
and Target. I finally found one at Wal-Mart and it was the last one
on the shelves. In fact, I almost missed it because it was hanging
in a corner all by itself. The cube was $9.00 which would have been
great 50% off. Oh well, it didn't matter. At that point I was so
excited to have finally found one that I would have paid $20 for
it. Well, maybe...
On the way home, I was so ready to try to solve it that I took
every opportunity in the car to mix it up. There were a few red
lights on the way home, so I had plenty of time to just play around
with it.
Let me say that the Rubik's cube is pretty challenging. My cube
came with a little guide book on how to solve it. It is hard to
remember all the different procedures and routes around the cube. I
can solve it, but I need to use the guide book each time. But yes,
I like it. I think this will be my new thing for a little while
now.
