Eventful Week
Well, now that things have died down a
little bit from the last couple of days I can sit down and update
this blog. Ever since the exam for BME314 ended, I've been still
going full steam. Fortunately, it wasn't all for school.
Since I couldn't do any grading on Tuesday due to being sick, I
had to finish it all on Wednesday. However, my prof and I were
sending out our research paper on Wednesday and so a lot of my day
was taken up in a meeting. By Wednesday late afternoon, I had only
graded 1/3 of the exams and therefore needed to finish 2/3 of the
grading, plus tallying up the grades and reporting them online.
Fortunately I had some help with the grading. My friend Abby came
out and helped me with some stuff so that I could focus on grading
the tough math-y part of the exam. She helped me out until about
11pm, and then I was able to finish the rest up at home. I got to
sleep around midnight which would have been impossible had I had to
do all of this on my own.
On Thursday I went into the lab briefly just to tie up some loose
ends. Then tried to begin my Christmas shopping. I got a little bit
done but cut my shopping short with a visit with my old high school
friend, Warren. I haven't talked to this guy in over 8 years. We
saw each other briefly at our class' 5 year reunion but never got
to really catch up. Things had truly changed a lot for both of us
in the last couple of years. It was really good to be able to hang
out once again. Hopefully I'll be better at this whole
keeping-in-touch thing in the future.
So since I didn't get the bulk of my shopping done on Thursday,
Friday was my make or break day. Starting at 9:30am I set out to
the stores. Fighting the crowds,I was able to get what I needed and
made it home in one piece. By the time I had gotten all my packages
sealed and addressed, it was about 4pm. Now, going to the post
office at 4pm on the Friday before Christmas day is not a very good
idea. But I had to. Fortunately, the lines at the post office
weren't that bad and I was able to make it home around 5pm.
Oh, but that's not all I've been up to. Yesterday, I drove down
to Houston to visit my roommate from college, Neema. He's a med
student at UTMB. We also haven't talked since college graduation
(see a trend here?), so I was looking forward to seeing him once
again. We went to a Japanese/Brazilian fusion restaurant for lunch
and were able to catch up on things that had happened in the last
4-5 years. Though we shared about tons of things that had changed,
many things had not and we were still laughing about the same
things that we had laughed about our freshman year at Hopkins.
Today I found myself a little sick (again), from being around some
sick people (again). Fortunately I was still able to go to church
and hang out with some friends afterwards. With tomorrow being
Christmas, I'm looking forward to a(nother) relaxing day.
