My Weekend Update
A quick overview on Saturday and Sunday.
I pretty much got no sleep this past weekend. Saturday morning I woke up early to go to church at around 8am. ECHO was serving at various places around town. I got placed in a group that went to Top Drawer, a thrift store down on 45th and Burnet. The store supports "Project Transitions" a non-profit organization that assists people living with AIDS and HIV. We went there to help them paint their interior walls. There were about 15 people in our group. The ladies in our group spent time painting an open wall, and their dressing room, while the guys ended up painting a wall that was behind this GINORMOUS wall shelf. The shelf was one giant piece approximately 20 feet long. It was covered with items that were for sale, so we had to move those items, move the shelf, and then paint the wall, move the shelf back, and reshelf the items that were on there originally. We were there from about 9am to a little after noon. Good times though.
Then I came home after lunch and painted the roof of my lab-mate's car. Nothing special, just spray can Rust-o-leum. The stuff is pretty deceptive because I thought that the paint had gone on pretty non-uniform and ugly looking. But the next morning after it had dried and cured, it actually looked pretty decent. I should have taken a picture of it, but it wasn't bad at all. Now I want to paint the rest of the body panels so that everything looks good. I will say though, that the next time I do this, I'm gonna buy a respirator. Spray cans release paint dust EVERYWHERE.
Sunday morning I woke up at an unbelievable hour so that I could meet Alex for breakfast at Kerbey Lane. We met around 7:30 at the original Kerbey. Good stuff, although I had no coffee and I was dying by the time ECHO service came around. One cool thing from the morning is that I had my membership interview for EV Free. The two gentlemen who interviewed me said that they would approve my membership application to the church. I dunno the exact timetable for the membership process, but I think it becomes official in the next couple of weeks.
The rest of Sunday was spent catching up on sleep and also grading exams for BME314.
