Election Day Results
For those of you who know me well, you know that politics and government are usually low on my list of conversation topics. I read CNN.com everyday, usually just to see what new thing is happening in the world, but the world of politics is not a high priority for me. Some people love to keep up with the latest campaign, but for me there are other things. However, I have to make mention about something I read today in the news. Obviously the Democrats winning both the House AND the Senate is big news. It means that our government will be deadlocked on some issues now between the Democratic House and Senate, and our Republican president. But that's not what caught my eye.
The other big news headline was that Donald Rumsfeld was stepping down as Defense Secretary. Not only was that a surprise, but his replacement is going to be former CIA chief, Robert Gates, who is currently the president of Texas A&M.
Think about it now. Our new DEFENSE secretary, comes from a school who only has an average defensive line in the Big XII. They should have looked at someone from Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma or even Tech. Plenty of better choices there. Of course, the other side of the coin is that "the best defense is a good offense", so why not look at offense? Plenty of other schools with better offensive lines. They lost to both OU and Tech, both teams that UT beat up well (if you ignore the first half of the Texas Tech game).
Okay sure, so maybe the CIA line has something to do with it. But come on... shouldn't I be worried about the fact that now we have an Aggie as our Defense Secretary?
