K-Eye News Aftermath
They came in around 2pm this afternoon and they asked to have some cycling experiments set up. They also wanted it to seem like we did these kinds of experiments ALL the time. When in reality, we really only do walking and running experiments. The main reason they were interested was because one of the profs here had done some tests on Lance back in 1999 before he began winning the Tours. However, in the interview, you would have thought that this prof had met with Lance last week to give him coaching tips for this month's Tour de France. He talked about Lance's muscle type, his training regimen, the type of cycling strategies going into the Tour. All this because he had met him over 6 years ago, and never again since then:)
My lab partner and I thought it was funny because half the answers to the interviewer's questions were made up by the prof to sound good for tv. I think they just wanted that though. Even CNN had my research advisor pretend to coach a cyclist on the stationary bike. My advisor has NEVER coached cycling. He's never coached anything at all! Hehe. It was all for show, but still pretty cool. Both camera guys were awesome at what they were doing, getting the good shots, as well as those artsy accessory shots that you always see in news segments.
In the end, I watched K-Eye tonight at 6pm to see how the editting went. Over an hour of interviewing with this prof got cut down to a 10 second blurb. The rest of the segment was filled in with commentary from the newslady and video clips of Lance Armstrong riding in the Tour de France.
Edit: Here's a small version of the news segment.
