Cheaters
I have to say that there are very few
things in the academic world that annoy me more than cheaters.
Coming from a competitive school like Hopkins, I saw just how
prevalent cheating was, especially in BME. I'm sure some of you
know the time there was rampant cheating in Biostatistics, where
the whole class pretty much started copying off of each other after
the exam when the professor stepped outside to grab a stapler and
took just a little too long.
Then there was time where the BME honor society president was
sitting in front of me in an exam copying answers off of the guy
sitting next to him. Every few minutes he'd look back to see if I
was catching on to what he was doing. Of course I saw what he was
doing. He wasn't doing a very good job at concealing his cheating.
Of course, I don't think he got caught, and he's probably in some
prestigious M.D. program right now on his way to becoming a doctor.
Anyways, now when I see people cheating on homeworks or tests, it
really annoys the crap out of me. I'd rather see people just take
a bad grade for a homework that they don't understand than just
copying the problem off of someone else. Actually, I'd like to see
people make the effort to understand the stuff first. And actually,
many of my students took the time to ask me questions about this
week's homework. Even though it took a lot of time out of my
research duties this week, I was very pleased to see that happen,
and more than happy to take time to help them out.
</End Rant>
...For now.
