Man, this afternoon I checked the site, only to find that my homepage had been hacked and replaced by some hacker site with a skull and cross bones! That sucked. Fortunately, a quick restore from a previous backup brought the webpage back to working order in no time. Total time the website was down? About 15 minutes or so, going by the timestamp of some of the files. Hopefully this is a problem on the server side, and not with Joomla. Otherwise, that would suck even more.

Update: The site got hacked again this afternoon! A quick perusal of the access log showed a backdoor coming from the Photo gallery. Because of that I've taken down the gallery, and I might end up just switching to Flickr Pro altogether.

Also, I've had to turn off some of the global accessability in the site, which means that the comments feature doesn't work. But since I didn't really get many comments anyways, all is normal:)

Update2: Dang it. Turns out that I lost one of my website folders. I should have been better about backing up. I've emailed my webhosting provider to see if they can restore it for me. Their website boasts "Frequent Backups". Hopefully, that's what they do and not what they suggest their users (like me) should do.

Update3: Well everything is pretty much back to normal. I was unable to get everything back from that lost folder, but I did get most of the stuff. I guess I should be a little more diligent with backing up. The stuff that was lost can be recreated. Fortunately I don't have anything crucial on my webhoster. The only thing that is different now is the loss of the comments feature.

I will say though that my webhosting provider once again comes in in the clutch. Five minutes after I sent them an email about restoring my backup they emailed me saying that they were on the job. This morning when I woke up, everything was restored in my account. If you're ever looking for some webhosting space, check these guys out: www.cernax.com
