Good to be back
It's been about a week since I last posted. I thought I would post more
while I was out of town in VA, but that didn't happen at all. Mostly
because we would leave for the conference early in the morning, and
wouldn't get back to the hotel until late in the evening. By then I
would be so tired that I wouldn't feel like posting anything.
But
overall the conference was good. I had a good poster session. People
came by to my poster and brought up interesting ideas and suggestions to
me. Hopefully I was able to teach them some stuff too. The other talks
and presentations that I saw were also pretty interesting. One of the
cooler research projects being presented was from a lab that was putting
accelerometers into college football players' helmets in order to do a
study on head impacts related to concussions. They showed a clip from an
OU vs. Nebraska game last year in which one of the players recieved a
concussion during a tackle. The data from the helmet showed that that
player recieved a head impact of 150 G's. Dang.
Now, I said that
the conference was good OVERALL. Not every part was good. Especially
Saturday evening at 8/7pm Central Time. During the closing banquet, my
lab-mates and a bunch of other football fanatics went downstairs to the
hotel bar to watch the UT vs. OSU game. I was a little too overconfident
about UT, and made a few um... prideful remarks to the OSU fans there.
Not cool. But I think I had good reason to be overconfident right??
Defending champions, home field advantage, previous winners from last
year's UT/OSU game. I guess I wasn't taking into account Frankie
Muniz er, Colt McCoy. I'm sure he'll get better though.
