Sometimes it's the little things that remind you of the goodness of God. This morning I woke up and got ready to go to church when my car wouldn't start. Lights would flicker, and the door would beep, but the engine wouldn't crank. Obviously, dead battery, which is very surprising because I run an Optima yellow top battery in the RSX. For those who don't know, the Optima yellow top is the king of car batteries. It's pretty expensive and pretty heavy duty. Also, instead of a wet-cell type battery, it's a dry-cell making it similar to your Duracell AA battery.

My dad helped me jump the car, and then I headed to church. Afterwards, I couldn't start the car again, so Jonathan was kind enough to give me a ride to lunch, and also back to church to jump my car there.

Came home and looked for my receipt for the battery. It was dated 7/18/2005. Which means I had TWO DAYS before my battery went out of warranty! Talk about the grace of God there! I took the battery to Pep Boys to redeem it for a new battery but the parts guy told me that it was out of stock and that I would have to wait till Thursday. He told me to talk to the manager and ask for a full refund so that I could buy another battery and get back on the road again. The manager was unwilling to do that, and so I went back to the parts guy to see what he could do. He tried searching other local PepBoys for the Optima, but to no avail. Finally, he and I went to talk to the manager once again. I asked the manager to help me out since with no battery I wouldn't be able to get to work tomorrow. Finally, he made one call to the corporate headquarters and then said that he could refund my entire purchase! I ended up going to Wal-mart to pick up a regular car battery for about $40. Praise God for that. Not only did he provide me a brand new working battery. But I also got all of my money back from that expensive battery that I bought last year. I came out with about $100 from that. Like I said, the Optima is an expensive battery.

But yeah, God was very kind to me today and He didn't even have to be. My battery could have died two days from now when my warranty was expired. The manager could have decided to refund my money. I could have had to spend even more money on another expensive battery.

Sweetness.

Sears is really really bad - they use Die Hard batteries which die hard. God is awesome.
