Last night Terence invited Wei and I to meet this guy from his church, William. All I knew about this guy was that he worked on cars on the side, and specifically rebuilt cars so that he could give them away. Terence had mentioned that there was an opportunity for us to work with him since at any given time he has 10 or so project cars that he is working on. Let me just say that I was totally unprepared for what this guy was all about.

I showed up late to the restaurant since they were meeting way up in Cedar Park. But I walk in and William is this old guy, probably in his 60s or 70s. Not the kinda guy that you would imagine has 10 project cars. I sit down and he starts telling us about all the things he's done on cars... rebuilding transmissions, swapping front ends of cars, porting and polishing engine heads, even building engines from scratch. Most of the things he was telling me was over my head since he works primarily on old American classic cars, so I have no idea what a 351 Windsor big block is. But the thing that really encouraged me was the way that he went about with this ministry.

Over and over, he shared stories of how he would pray for cars, car parts, or tools and God would faithfully provide him things for so little money. One example, he showed us a picture of a two-post car lift that he had: you know, the hydraulic kind that they have at mechanic garages. Those things cost about $3200. He was able to obtain one for $200, in what he described as a blessing from God. Another time, he says a friend of his rammed her car into a tree, completely destroying the front end. He was able to find a parts car with a totally intact front end and engine for only $600.

This guy was such a testimony of how he had been faithful to what God had provided him. The thing was, that he wasn't a very wealthy guy, he works as a service tech at Wal-Mart, but he was very generous with what he had. Not only that, it was amazing to hear how he prayerfully went about his car work. I wish that I could be like that when I work on cars.
