Happiness
I got a phone call the other day from my good friend Edna at Berkeley. She told me that she attended this end-of-the-year lecture by one of the university professors. The lecture wasn't on an academic subject, but it was almost an inspirational lecture on life for the students. Edna told me that the professor was talking about life, and what was truly important; that it wasn't about just getting through school and getting that degree job. Those things don't make you happy. He made a statement that if you are happy, and I mean truly genuinely happy, for only 5 percent for your life, then you are doing much better than a lot of people in this world. It really made me think, because how long have I been happy? Surely, for more than 5 percent of my life. On the opposite extreme, how much more are people UN-happy in this world.
Five percent is not a lot of time. That's only a few days out of the year. Hopefully you are above 5 percent.
