Recruit Me
I drove the Corolla out today for the very first time. It was a great commuter car for me. Though the car doesn't accelerate as fast as the Acura, it's still got a lot of kick and is sufficient for daily driving. Which kinda got me thinking today on my commute. What on earth is up with this trend of making passenger cars with upwards of 300 horsepower?? I mean, when are you ever going to possibly use that? I mean, cars like the new IS have 350 horsepower. This is not to say that there is no place for high powered cars (I would have no hobby if that were true), but for the general public, the trend over the last couple of years is to have a car with a bigger engine, more horsepower, and more torque. Subsequently, many cars are high compression which requires the use of Premium gasoline at a premium price. For me, it seems like a waste when this 1991 Corolla has a lot of pull, and gets gas mileage close to even some hybrid cars today.
Again, I may seem to be hypocritical here, but I defend myself saying that cars are my hobby, and hobbies are never practical to begin with. (Who pays $3000 for a Beanie Baby? Only hobbists and collectors). When I stop getting interested in cars, I will be the first to buy a lowly Corolla or Civic in order to get from point A to point B.
