Okay, so Austin has been under a winter advisory since about 6pm last
night. The UT campus was closed yesterday at 2pm and was supposed to
stay closed until 10am this morning. I figured I'd try to get in a
little early nonetheless this morning so I left the house around 8:45.
My first observation was that people were driving SLOW on 360. I mean,
super slow. The speed limit is normally 60mph, but people were driving
close to 25mph. At first I thought that there was ice on the roads, but
there was nothing. Then I thought that there was some sort of mandatory
speed limit for the city today, but that wasn't it either. I guess
people were freaking out over the weather. It makes sense too since on
the way to school I saw at least 15 wrecked cars on the side of the
roads. They had either been pulled over, or stuck in the ditches. One
ditch had FOUR cars mangled up together. Crazy.
Thank goodness for wider tires and front wheel drive. Although if the
roads were really bad near my house I'd kinda wish I had the beauty of
all wheel drive. Those with rear wheel drive (Scott), be careful out
there today. Anyways, as I got pretty close to school an announcement
came on the radio that UT was closed completely for the day. Wow... I
could have stayed home and played more Gran Turismo 4. But it was nice
because the campus was so abandoned that I got a nice parking spot
right in front of my building. Not bad considering that half my lab is
here for the day so I'm not here all by myself.
