So I had a change of plans yesterday where I wasn’t going to buy the new David Crowder CD on iTunes, but rather at Family Christian Bookstores. They sent me a catalog with some nice coupons on the back. There was a 25% off coupon that would have made the CD around $10, which was the same price as iTunes (but then you’d get the case and booklet). I went out after dinner to get the CD, but when I got to the bookstore, I realized that the coupon was only for non-sale items. For on-sale items, the coupon only became 10% off. Not worth it in my case, so I came home and got hooked up through iTunes. The CD is pretty cool. The songs are catchy and could appeal to a very wide range of people unlike some Christian music which is primarily for kids, or primarily for people who grew up in the 70s (I won’t name names though). The musicality of the band is excellent, there is a lot of skill involved in these songs, and in the instrumentation which I appreciate listening to. From a worship leader perspective, I could see myself leading these songs for worship. However, whether this is justified or not, it seemed that the album gave me the impression that I was to get excited from simply the songs and the instrumentation and the band itself (rather than the content of the songs). The digital booklet made more mention of the band and their efforts in making this CD rather than the center of attention of the songs, that is Christ and Him crucified. Perhaps this serves more as a caution than a dismissal of the CD. Regardless, I do continue to enjoy listening to the songs either at work or in the car. Off of iTunes, it was worth my $9.99.
