Looks like Rita is heading more towards east Texas rather than right into Austin. Not necessarily good for the people out there. Checked with a few friends in Houston/Galveston last night, they're getting out which is a relief. It comforts me to know that there seems to be more preparation this time around for the hurricane than there was 3 weeks ago. Emergency teams are mobilized, military personnel are on standby, and even the utility companies are ready to deal with power outages.

Bush surveys New Orleans from Air Force One I saw a funny segment on Letterman last night. They were talking about the proposed 104 billion dollar budget to put a man on the moon by 2018. In order to justify the spending, they said that NASA had put together a video commercial discussing about possible applications for space travel. The end of the commercial goes, "If we can figure out how to get a man to the moon in 3 days, maybe one day we'll find a way to get a man from Crawford, Texas to New Orleans in less than 5."

Stay safe and dry, everyone.
