Crazy how 4 years goes by so quickly. So much has happened since then, yet 9/11/2001 is still clear in my mind. I still remember the clear, bright morning, walking into Control Systems and hearing people talk about how one airplane had crashed into one of the Trade Center towers. Our professor seemed oblivious to the news, and taught class just as any day. After class, we dismissed and walked out to an oddly quiet campus. People were huddled around radios, televisions in the library. For weeks, maybe even months following the attacks I felt sick to my stomach whenever I heard people talking about 9/11, saw news regarding it, or even thought about it myself. To think of the horrors of that day and how many were helpless to save themselves or others brought a wave of sadness over me. Much like today...

Many of the programs on tv today focused on the 4 year anniversary of the attacks. Even though much time has passed, the reality of that day still sinks in. I was watching a National Geographic special on 9/11, complete with interviews from survivors and widows and to relive all of that day over again was almost too much for me. Keep in mind that in 2001 I was less than an hour from the Pentagon and I was surrounded by people who had family in DC, New York and Pennsylvania. Similarly, the Katrina disaster has brought about the same kind of emotions as news coverage on the event is almost 24-7 these days.

Yet comfort comes in knowing that God is sovereign over everything and that nothing escapes His power. He is the great I Am, and there is rest in Him and Him alone. As oddly profound as it is, the Lord is good to all.

"But as for me, it is good to be near God.
       I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
       I will tell of all your deeds."
Psalm 73:28
