Did anyone catch this Stephen Colbert quote from a few weeks ago on his show?

"If this is gonna be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we've got to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that he commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition!  And then admit, that we just don't wanna do it."

I'm not one for getting into political debates or rhetoric, but when a comedian gets it right more than anyone else in politics or on tv, you gotta wonder what kind of world we live in.

Watch the whole segment below, either for its tragically accurate assessment of social justice in politics today, or if anything just for its sheer entertainment value.

It looks like at one point he almost breaks character and is speaking from his heart. He's actually a pretty strong Catholic and teaches sunday school at his church in Montclair, NJ. A guy that collaborates with my bosses and is in my lab every once in a while knows him--he teaches sunday school class with him.
